Production of Precipitated Silica

Precipitated silica is typically produced from sodium silicate, which is derived from quartz sand.
 
Process:
The most common method for producing precipitated Fumed Silica involves the addition of an acid (often sulfuric acid) to a sodium silicate solution. This process creates a gel-like precipitate of silica, which is then washed, filtered, and dried.
The resulting product is then processed to achieve specific particle sizes and surface areas, depending on the intended application.
 
Key Properties of Precipitated Silica
High Surface Area:
Precipitated silica typically has a high surface area (150 m²/g to 400 m²/g or more), which enhances its ability to adsorb liquids and gases.
 
Porosity:
