1. Formulation of Inkjet Receptive Coatings And Paints
Components:
Silica Additives: Depending on the desired properties, different types of silica (fumed, precipitated, or colloidal) can be selected based on their particle size, surface area, and other characteristics.
Binders: Polymers (like acrylics, polyurethanes, or modified resins) are used to provide adhesion to the substrate and help retain the structure of the coating.
Water or Solvents: These act as carriers for the formulation and help with application.
Surfactants: These improve dispersion and stability of the formulation and can help control the wetting properties of inks on the coating.
Other Additives: These may include colorants, anti-foaming agents, and additives aimed at enhancing certain properties, such as UV stability or scratch resistance.
Process:
Mixing: The Fumed Silica is dispersed into the liquid phase (water or solvents) to ensure even distribution. This step often involves high-shear mixing to break agglomerates and achieve a uniform mixture.
Polishing and Modulating: Depending on the desired texture and performance, further adjustments to the formulation may be made, such as modifying the silica concentration or the ratio of other components.
2. Application Methods
The prepared inkjet receptive coating can be applied to a variety of substrates using several methods:
Roll Coating: This method allows large sheets of material to be coated uniformly. The viscosity of the coating is adjusted to ensure appropriate transfer and thickness.
Spray Coating: This technique is beneficial for achieving an even coating on irregularly shaped or textured surfaces.
Inkjet Printing: In some cases, the receptive layer itself might be printed via inkjet technology to create specific patterns or properties on the substrate.
Screen Printing: This method can be used for applying thick, opaque layers of coating.
Doctor Blade Coating: A blade spreads the coating uniformly across the substrate, achieving precise thickness.
