Aerogel Powder in Vacuum Insulation Panels

Vacuum Aerogel Insulating Solutions Panels (VIPs) are advanced insulation materials that provide incredibly effective thermal insulation due to their unique structure, which includes a vacuum-sealed core that minimizes heat transfer. Aerogel powder is increasingly being used as a key component in these panels, enhancing their performance and expanding their applications. Below is a detailed overview of aerogel powder in vacuum insulation panels.

What are Silica Aerogel Powders?
Aerogel is a highly porous material derived from a gel in which the liquid component is replaced with a gas (usually air). The resulting substance is a lightweight solid with a very low density and high surface area—often referred to as "frozen smoke" due to its translucent appearance. Aerogel powder is simply the powdered form of this material, which can be used in various applications, including as an additive in VIPs.

Features of Silica Insulations
Low Thermal Conductivity:
Aerogel powders have some of the lowest thermal conductivity values (between 0.01 and 0.03 W/(m·K)), making them highly effective at reducing heat transfer.

Lightweight:
Aerogel powders are exceptionally light, with densities typically around 0.1 g/cm³ or lower. This characteristic is particularly valuable in applications where weight is a concern.
High Porosity:
Aerogels are composed of 90-99% air, contributing to their high insulating properties. This significant porosity traps air and limits heat transfer through conduction and convection.
Mechanical and Thermal Stability:
Aerogel powders can maintain their structure and insulating properties under various conditions, providing long-term performance in VIPs.
Moisture Resistance:
Many aerogels possess Hydrophobic properties, preventing moisture absorption that could degrade insulation performance over time.
Fire Resistance:
Aerogels are generally non-combustible, enhancing safety in applications where fire resistance is critical.
Customization and Flexibility:
Aerogel powders can be engineered to meet specific needs, allowing for customized thermal performance in VIPs.
